The Wauwinet neighborhood is located on the northeastern side of the Island, nestled on a slender strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Nantucket Harbor, close to the entrance of the Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge. Wauwinet is a coastal haven featuring a mix of residences, from elegant and private estates to quaint beach cottages. Leading to the entrance of Great Point, Wauwinet hosts the renowned and luxurious Wauwinet Inn, an upscale hotel that is part of the White Elephant Resorts, offering fine dining and spa services. During the season, the Wauwinetprovides a boat taxi service between its hotel and the White Elephant in Town for convenient access. Even if you're not staying there, you can stop by for a drink or simply enjoy the waterfront lawns and gardens. Famous for its access to Great Point and Coatue, it is the ideal getaway for a secluded beach day filled with fishing and picnics. Great Point is an expansive, undeveloped barrier beach at the tip of Nantucket, featuring the iconic Great Point Lighthouse. It stretches for seven miles, is favored by fishermen, and is one of the prime spots to observe grey seals. Great Point is privately owned by the Trustees of Reservations, and a permit is required to drive on it.
