Welcome to Surfside
The Surfside neighborhood is situated on the island's southern side, extending along the coast and centered around Surfside Beach. Both locals and tourists appreciate its laid-back vibe and its closeness to mid-island, the airport, and island ferries. Surfside is accessible via a 3-mile bike ride along the Surfside bike path, a 10-15 minute car ride from town, or by taking the free island WAVE bus.
The Surfside area features four stunning beaches to discover—Fisherman’s, Stone’s, Nobadeer, and Surfside—all within a mile of picturesque, walkable shoreline. Surfside Beach provides restrooms, bike racks, lifeguards, and a food truck for a convenient and enjoyable beach day. There is ample free parking. The beach itself is often crowded, but it is wide and flat with plenty of space, featuring rolling surf over sandbars. The surf is typically moderate but can become strong on windy days or during storm surges. Surfside is an excellent spot for setting up beach games like volleyball, surfing, or boogie boarding for younger kids.
Surfside Beach is also a favored fishing spot. The deep-water area between the shore and the sandbar is a popular habitat for Bluefish and Striped Bass. Grilling on the beach is permitted, ideally with a charcoal or propane grill, but please refrain from leaving charcoal on the beach.
One of the well-known beaches in the Surfside area is Nobadeer, which offers drive-on access and is a fantastic place to watch planes take off and land at the airport.
Surfside boasts a diverse range of homes, including charming beach cottages with unobstructed Atlantic views, modern constructions, and luxury estates with expansive layouts, private pools, and direct beach access.
