Welcome to Sconset
Sconset, also known as Siasconset, is situated on Nantucket's easternmost edge. Originally a fishing outpost, it overlooks the shoreline and possesses a charm that makes it one of the island’s most picturesque spots. Located along the Atlantic coast, it is about 8 miles from Town. Sconset stands out as a unique area that has maintained its distinct character for decades, featuring elegant summer homes along its grassy Main Street, shell-covered streets, 18th and 19th-century rose-adorned cottages nestled in winding lanes, and grand estates hidden behind well-kept privet hedges. The neighborhood promotes a close-knit community and a strong sense of belonging, with residents actively participating in local events and activities.
Many residents choose to stay only in the village throughout the summer, and there's genuinely no need to leave. It’s a tranquil neighborhood that perfectly balances restaurants and shops, winding down early in the evening. The heart of the area is Sconset Village, featuring the Sconset Market, which also offers ice cream and delicious homemade baked goods, Siasconset Casino (a private tennis and social club), The Summer House for beachside dining, Claudette's Sandwich Shop open for breakfast and lunch (order your sandwich with "The Works"), and the Sconset Bookstore, which is actually a wine and gift shop.
Three of the island's golf courses are located here, two of which are private. The stunning Sankaty Head Golf Club offers breathtaking views of its namesake lighthouse towering over the links. Enjoy sweeping ocean views and admire beautiful homes along the two-mile Bluff Walk, then continue to the lighthouse along Baxter Road. Sconset is ideal for family biking, with access to both the Milestone and Polpis Road bike paths.
Codfish Park and Playground is a wonderful spot for children, owned and maintained by the Nantucket Land Bank, and just a short walk from the village center and the beach. Sconset Beach is a serene beach with easy ocean access. Although parking is limited, it's a brief walk from the bus stop and features lifeguards during the summer.
