Welcome to Polpis
Polpis is located on the eastern side of Nantucket, along Polpis Road, which runs between the Milestone Rotary and the easternmost part of the island, near Sconset. The scenic bike path along the Polpis Road is one of the most beautiful on the island. It winds through the moors and offers stunning views of the countryside and the harbor. Polpis is close to the Middle Moors, a vast conservation area with walking trails and opportunities to explore the island’s unique landscape of scrubland and kettle ponds. It’s perfect for hiking, birdwatching, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature. One of the highest elevations on Nantucket is Altar Rock, which can be accessed via a dirt path off the Polpis Road. Nantucket's Life-Saving Museum is also in the area, an affiliate of Egan Maritime Institute, the museum is dedicated to honoring Nantucket's history of shipwrecks, lifesaving, and rescuers. There is also easily access to the Windswept Cranberry Bog, a 205-acre conservation property home to miles of trails and bird species. The bog is especially colorful in mid-October when the cranberries are harvested. The Polpis Harbor is one of the most beautiful and serene harbors on the island; perfect for boating, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The calm waters make it ideal for these activities, and it's a great place for a peaceful afternoon on the water and gorgeous orange and yellow sunsets. Its picturesque, rustic qualities have made Polpis a favored spot for Nantucket artists for centuries. The rolling moors and larger parcels of land offer privacy and lots of spaces to explore.
